A Milestone and a Big Step Forward
Today marks the mid-point of 2009, a year which by all accounts has been remarkably challenging and interesting. We’ve spent six months navigating through a recession, a digitization of the DOB’s plan submission system, and the imposing deadline to adopt the 2008 Building Code.
Today’s very real milestone is the conversion to the 2008 Building Code. The 2008 Code gives us a set of current guidelines for new construction that should lead to better and safer buildings going forward. It comes hand in hand with a move by the DOB to improve the procedures of submissions and filings. These parallel updates of the rules, regulations and process should start to pay off with greater efficiencies in the coming years.
This conversion comes after a full year of transition, when we worked with both the DOB and our Clients to better understand the nuances and impact of the Code changes. As expected, we uncovered issues and challenges. Through our close dialogue with the DOB, we found solutions.
The 2008 Building Code gives the City a foundation for modernization. New regulations, technologies, skills and materials will always emerge, becoming important and then critical. The 2008 Code gives the City a more current platform to anticipate and support these future evolutions.
The era of the 2008 Building Code starts today. After a year of seasoning, we are prepared and eager to build the future.
