Eat, Drink, and Be Merry, with a Quicker Permit

It’s a known fact that the real estate industry and new restaurants rely on each other to succeed. Landlords almost always grant establishments free rent to cover the time needed for renovations.

Yet an extra hurdle typically creates a friction point – the fact that by the time the DOB gets around to approving a project, the free rent has expired. So it’s good news for everyone that the DOB has launched an initiative to change this.

Last month the DOB launched the NBAT – the New Business Acceleration Team – with the mandate of streamlining the construction plan review process for eating and drinking establishments.

The NBAT will work in conjunction with the DOB, FDNY, Health and Environmental Protection agencies in order to coordinate the review process, inspections and sign-offs. As a goal, the NBAT will strive to help restaurants, food shops and bars to open their doors faster.

The NBAT is headquartered at 100 Gold Street, and has a team of dedicated DOB examiners to call on. Participation is city wide for all five boroughs.
