Upcoming DEP Regulations Means Higher Lab Costs
In the near future, the City’s Department of Environmental Protection intends to align its programs with NY State’s Department of Environmental Conservation regulations. As part of this alignment, non-organically bound materials or debris such as roofing, siding and floor tiles will require a type of lab sampling known as TEM, or transmission electron microscopy.
The sampling will determine if the material or debris contains asbestos. If so, the materials will become an ACP7 filing rather than an ACP5 filing.
As a more intensive test, the lab costs for TEM testing will rise in price by a factor of three. With this in mind, filings should happen sooner rather than later.
